In a significant move to combat the looming hunger crisis in Northeastern Nigeria, the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Mohamed M. Malick Fall, today launched the 2025 Lean Season Plan at the UN House.
This initiative comes at a critical time, with over 4 million Nigerians at risk of severe hunger, and 280,000 children facing the deadly threat of malnutrition in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states.
The Minister, emphasized the urgency of the situation, stressing that early humanitarian action is non-negotiable. The humanitarian community must act quickly to mitigate the effects on vulnerable populations.
The launch marks a pivotal moment in efforts to secure coordinated humanitarian financing that will support timely interventions. The 2025 Lean Season Plan seeks to mobilize resources and foster collaboration across multiple sectors, aiming to address the immediate and long-term needs of those affected. With the support of international partners and local stakeholders, the plan aims to alleviate suffering and prevent the crisis from escalating further.
